The Legion of Mary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Parish has a Legion of Mary Praesidium since the 1980's and has managed to keep an active and auxiliary membership going. The purpose of the Legion is service to the Church and its members through the help of Mary, Mother of God, to fight against Satan and all the evil in the world through Prayer and Good works.
The Legion is at the disposal of the Bishop and the Parish Priest and what they deem necessary to work within the parish and the diocese assisting with duties such as visiting the sick,, and bringing communion to those who can no longer come to Mass because of old age, illness or whatever the case may be.
Legion Members distribute religions materials such as Literature, Holy pictures, prayers cards, Rosaries and Medals as a means of reaching out and inviting others and fallen away Catholics to Church. The Legion also can have other ministries such as teaching CCD or RCIA.
There are two kinds of membership: One active and the other auxiliary.
- Active: commits to attending a weekly meeting at local Parish and one monthly meeting in the Diocese. Daily recitation of the Catena and two hours of mission work.
- Auxiliary: Commits to praying the prayers in the Tesera which consists of the Rosary. They are considered as prayers warriors whose prayers sustain our mission.
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary September 8th, 2019
The members of the Legion of Mary celebrated the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary this past Sunday, September 8th, 2019.
As part of this celebration, the presidium of Sacred Heart invited different presidiums from the Diocese, to venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary.
On this special day, we prayed together the Holy Rosary and shared a meal.
